Here at Merge building, our main goal is to give you a home that you are excited to live in.

Over time, each house becomes a home and memories are made. This reason makes a home extension a great choice.

It not only adds value to your current house, but rejuvenates it to make the whole thing feel brand new.

How much does a home extension cost?

Depending on single storey or second storey extensions, the price can vary. A good estimate though can be assumed.

Single Storey Extensions

These can cost anywhere between $2,000 per m2 to $4,000 per m2. The cost depends largely on the type of materials you use and the design you choose.

HiPages estimates “an 80 square metre ground floor extension costs $164,500 – $310,000. That works out to $2056m2 – $3875m2″.

Two Storey Extensions

If you are thinking about adding a two-storey extension, you’ll have to add 50% to the cost of the single story extension.

This would put the square metre cost at around the $3,000 to $6,000 range.

Planning and brainstorming your home extension

When you’ve lived in your home for a few years, its easy to get a few ideas of how you would want to extend it to get that new home feel.

Brainstorming some ideas at home with friends and family is a great way to start.

Once you’re more set on the idea, its not unusual to get a professional involved.

We’ve helped many folks plan out their perfect extension. With a huge amount of options and new materials becoming available, a professional opinion will mean you get the best plan for your project.

If you are at the later end of planning, get in touch and we’d be happy to give your plan the once over.

When is best for a home extension?

Depending on the scale of the extension project, you might want to look at planning the time you do it to be at the end of winter / early spring.

You’ll avoid the heavy Perth downfalls that can delay a project, and you’ll also avoid the heat during the summer.

You’ll also get the added benefit of having the project potentially finished ready for peak BBQ season!

Booking in a builder early is always a good idea as we get booked up fast at these peak times.

Jean-Paul and I would like to thank yourself and your crew is your professionalism and patience during our kitchen renovation and for introducing us to some amazing tradesmen.
